Teaching Through Everyday Activities

Mama, we are constantly surrounded by opportunities to teach our littles through everyday activities. I’ve been a stay(work) at home mom for a while now—about three years now. This has given me the opportunity to be very present in my littles learning. I’m the mama who creates fun(and super cute) projects and activities for them to learn mostly through play—and keep them intrigued. Kids are natural learners. You can turn almost anything into a learning moment.

Keep these factors in mind:

Allow them to follow their curiosity

Let your little create while having fun. Have no set goals. Let your little navigate, be spontaneous and have fun.

They’ll find their way to learn, through play

Play-based learning allows your little to be creative, learn reasoning, learn emotional intelligence, and learn language skills.

Build your learn + play activities around meaningful sensory

Touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing.

Create an open + safe environment

You want your little to always feel safe and secure while trying new activities and ideas.

Here are some fun learn + play activities that we do, to learn:

Drawing, painting + coloring

Your little will learn self-expression, creativity, sensory, color pallets, and writing skills.

Bubble + water play

Your little will learn movement, hand-eye coordination, physical strength, consequences of actions.

Dance parties (we do these often)

Your little will learn coordination, rhythm, strength, flexibility, and listening skills. You can take it a step further and put on learning music(abc’s, numbers).

Blocks + shapes

Your little will learn shapes, sizes, logical reasoning, colors, and order.

Play dough (my least favorite, but the littles love it)

Your little will learn fine motor skills, colors and creativity.

Cooking (we do this a lot)

Your little will learn sensory, cooking/home safety, following directions and the process, combining elements and simple measurements.

Kitchen + imaginative play

Your little will learn to develop their own imagination and literacy play. I believe it also builds character and self-esteem. They learn to keep themselves occupied by using their imagination and what they have around them.

Dress up (Kenzie’s favorite)

Your little will learn self-dressing, self-care, roles, imagination—which are all super important and essential for future life.

Trucks and cars (Nasir’s favorite)

Your little will learn movement, physical development, building, and how different types of trucks work(digging, scooping, pouring).

Free outdoor/nature play

Your little will learn how fast they can get every inch of them dirty lol—no really, your little is learning the importance of the outdoors and environment.

Park play—climbing, swinging, running, jumping

Your little will learn safety, risk-taking, overcoming challenges, motor skills.

Cleaning (mamas favorite)

Your little will learn organization, order, responsibility, value of their home, and the importance of home cleanliness. Start them young mama. I’ve been making it a routine in our household. My littles love to help clean. These habits will carry over into their teenage, young adult, and adult lives.
